The AY-3-8910 is a 3-Voice Programmable Sound Generator (PSG) designed by General Instrument in 1978, initially for use with their 16-bit CP1610 or one of the PIC1650 series of 8-bit microcomputers. It has two general-purpose 8-bit parallel I/O ports, A and B. DIP-40 encapsulation.

The AY-3-8910 PSG is a Large Scale Integrated Circuit which can produce a wide variety of complex sounds under software control. Operation requires a single 5V power supply, a TTL compatible clock, and a microprocessor controller such as the GI 16-bit CP1600/1610 or one of Gl’s PIC 1650 series of b-bit microcomputers.
